1 pound of ground beef

1/2 pound of soft Italian sausage

1 small onion, finely chopped

1/2 C. Bell bell pepper, chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 clove of garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon oregano

1/2 teaspoon basil

1/2 teaspoon of parsley

1 egg, beaten

3/4 С. Italian breadcrumbs

2 slices of crumbled white bread

1 T. Milk

8 oz. grated mozzarella cheese, reserving 3/4 C. for topping.

1/4 C. Parmesan cheese

1 C. Marinara sauce, plus 1/2 - 3/4 C. more for garnish.

In a small skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté onion and bell peppers for 3-4 minutes, remove from heat.

Place meat, onion and peppers in large bowl with remaining ingredients, reserving 3/4 C. Reserve mozzarella cheese for garnish.

Now, using the best tool God gave you, your hands, dip and combine everything very well. Once everything is combined, transfer the mixture to a baking dish of your choice and shape it. I used my oval Portuguese earthenware for ours.

Spoon 1/2 to 3/4 C. of the marinara sauce on top and spread around. Place them in a 400 degree oven for 50 minutes. Remove from the oven, add the remaining cheese and sprinkle some dried basil on top.

Place back in the oven for another 10 minutes. Make sure the meat is no longer pink before serving. The baking time will depend on the thickness of your bread.
